Qanot Sharq to suspend some flights to Russia

13.01.2025

Private Uzbek airline Qanot Sharq (IATA code: HH) has announced the temporary suspension of some flights to Russia.

From January 20 to March 6 there will be no flights to Moscow from Tashkent, Bukhara, Namangan, Samarkand and Fergana. The carrier will also stop flying from Namangan and Samarkand to St. Petersburg.

The airline explained such measures by the need to withdraw two Airbus A320 airplanes, which were used on Russian flights, for maintenance in the form of C-check.

The airliners will go for labor-intensive maintenance one by one, so they will not be able to fully support all Russian destinations.

The carrier uses the rest of its aircraft - two Airbus A321neo and a wet-leased wide-body A330 - on routes to the Middle East and Asia.

Containership Rolls Over While Loading in Istanbul

23.12.2024

A small containership docked in Turkey’s main container port lost stability and rolled onto its side this morning, December 23, during the loading operation. Port officials are working to contain the damage and clean up from the vessel.

The vessel named Amnah (5,200 dwt) was loading containers at the Ambarli Port in Istanbul when it started listing toward the dock and eventually rolled onto its side. The incident was reported at 0400 local time and in the videos crewmembers can be seen on the deck.

Turkish officials reported there were 15 crew aboard and that five jumped into the water and swam to safety. The other ten were rescued from the vessel. One crewmember suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The ship was built in 1996 and was operating until recently for Russia’s Fesco shipping company. Databases reflected it transferred owners to a company in Belize as of October 2024 and is managed from Turkey. The ship is registered in Comoros.

Officials believe the vessel was improperly loaded causing it to lose stability. They reported an investigation would be undertaken to determine what happened during the loading process.

A containment boom was strung around the vessel to prevent pollution.

Air AstanaGroup selects maintenance provider at Antalya Airport

09.12.2024

Air Astana Group, Kazakhstan's largest air carrier, has signed a three-year agreement with Turkish MRO provider Total Technic for line maintenance at Antalya Airport (AYT).

In addition to the parent airline of the same name, the services of the Turkish company will be used by its subsidiary low-cost carrier FlyArystan.

Now only the flagship Air Astana flies to Antalya three times a week from Almaty.

However, in the summer season, flights of both carriers of the group from Aktau, Aktobe, Astana and Uralsk are added to this Turkish resort destination.

Total Technic Ltd. has been operating in the repair services market since 2012, having obtained SHGM (Turkish Civil Aviation Department), EASA and FAA certificates for its repair base at Istanbul Ataturk Airport (ISL). In 2018, a branch office was opened in Antalya and later a line maintenance base was opened at the new Istanbul Airport (IST).

Central Asia has its own regional civil aviation organization

25.11.2024

Central Asian countries have established their own regional civil aviation organization - the Eurasian Civil Aviation Conference (EACAC). It includes Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The declaration on the establishment of the organization was signed on November 6 at the first EACAC meeting in Almaty.

Representatives of the two countries in the region with the largest volumes of air traffic became the leaders of the new organization. Talgat Lastayev, Vice Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, was appointed Secretary General of EACAC, and Tahir Nazarov, Director General of the Civil Aviation Agency under the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was appointed President of the conference.

“The Eurasian Civil Aviation Conference will better coordinate the efforts of our countries to ensure unity of opinion and strong representation in the international aviation community,” explained Katalin Radu, head of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan.

EACAC's objectives include strengthening regional cooperation and mutual support; developing and implementing common policies and procedures to improve flight safety, aviation security, facilitation, sustainable growth and development of unmanned aviation; coordinating and implementing international civil aviation standards; strengthening the aviation capabilities of the countries in the region and increasing their presence in the international aviation arena; providing technical assistance and participating in the training of aviation personnel, as well as creating a unified platform “base of EACAC inspectors”.

At the first meeting of the organization, the projects on training of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan Excellence Center and on creation of a unified platform “base of EASAS inspectors” were presented.

The initiative to establish EACAC was first announced by Kazakhstan in May 2023. In April 2024 in Toulouse, the EACAC project was presented during the meeting of the Directors General of Civil Aviation of the European and North Atlantic Bureau of ICAO (EURNAT-DGCA).

Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Georgia and Mongolia are also considering the possibility of joining the new organization. The latter took part in the first EASAS meeting in Astana as an observer state.
